TRPM8 is also activated by cold (<26°C)[1,5] and it has been proposed that menthol acts by modulating the temperature sensitivity of the receptor [9].

Decreasing intracellular pH also modulates activation of the receptor by cold and icilin, but not menthol (IC50 at pH 7.2-7.6) [2].
